Prof. David SANDBORG
Representative, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre
David Sandborg currently serves on the faculty of the School of Law of City University of Hong Kong where he is Programme Leader for the Master of Arts degree Programme in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. He teaches International Arbitration, Arbitration Practice, and Advanced Dispute Resolution.
He received a JD degree from Stanford University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree (Cum Laude) from Dartmouth College. Mr Sandborg is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch) and of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators. He is on a number of arbitration panels including the CIETAC (China) Panel of Arbitrators, the SIAC (Singapore) International Panel of Accredited Arbitrators, the AAA (US) Large, Complex Case Panel, the HKIAC (Hong Kong) Panel, the KCAB (Korea) Panel, the WIPO (Geneva) Panel, and the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals (US). He has served as both advocate and arbitrator in ICC arbitrations.
He has spoken and lectured on ADR subjects at a number of universities including Peopleˇ¦s University (Beijing), Peking University, Fudan University (Shanghai), Southwest University (Chongqing) as well as the China Commercial Arbitration Training Centre in mainland China. One of the research interests of Mr. Sandborg is the development of arbitration law and dispute resolution practices in developing countries. He has worked with the Ministry of Justice of Vietnam on arbitration law reform and has conducted workshops in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Mr. Sandborg is Chair of the Commercial Mediation Group of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and teaches negotiation and mediation in the curriculum of the Master of Arts degree programme in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution. He is a former Director of the American Arbitration Association and co-chair of the National Affiliates Committee of the Center on Conflict and Negotiation at Stanford University.
